On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong
(Translator)

A letter from a son to his illiterate mother. A note written by Little Dog in his twenties revealing his family's history from before he was born. His epistolary recollection takes him back to their roots in Vietnam, teaches him about the hidden facet of his mother's life, and unfolds the story he will never forget.

This novel allows us to explore the relationship of a mother and a son and observe the truth that outsiders in American society have to face in both war-torn Vietnam, his home country, and the United States, the land of liberty where he settled down.

As an overlooked person, the Vietnamese writer and poet who grew up in America composed this body of work with painful yet beautiful moments. The first novel of Ocean Vuong tells about his living, surviving, and sincerely praising it through the gracefully inscribed words that will be engraved on us for a long time.
